Strange Food

Been a while since I last posted. Mostly this comes from me being very busy at work, and very tired. I just can't surf the way I used to, and as a result I don't feel I have any new to contribute.

However, my photographing of Engrish and strange Japanese food products continue unabated. For your viewing pleasure, I bring you these oddities (in no particular order).

Cat Shit One

A little bit of background. Cat Shit One, released in the US as Apocalypse Meow, is a manga about a American recon (LRRP?) unit in Vietnam. The manga, which I've only seen the odd page here and there, provided the odd mix of gritty historical action and cute animals. In the manga, various animal species represented various ethnicities. Rabbits were Americans, cats Vietnamese, panda Chinese etc.

The animated feature looks like it'll be set in modern day. From what I've been able to read from the opening text sequence, the members of Cat Shit One are PMC Contractors.

Cool story bro.!

I thought this was a joke.

Someone please tell me that this is a joke...

...though, living in a country where people regularly slurp up shrimp and crab brains, I suppose I can't be too surprised.

Yes we can!

That ever popular slogan has graced the pages of the program for this school year's last Class Match day.

Also, a little late, but I just found this picture in the recesses of my camera phone. Way to shoot for the stars kid!

Seems about right.

Seemed apropos, given my recent book review.

OMFG my students rock!

While not for my class, this is a short story written for my co-ALT's exam. The question asks for a retelling of the Princess and the Pea. While not strictly true to the plot of the story (and not to mention that the students were given the question beforehand), the results are BY FAR the funniest thing I have ever seen one of my students write. Much props to him.

As the picture is hard to read, here's a transcription:

Once there was a prince who lived in New York. One day, he got married to a princess of countless beauty. She was indeed very, very beautiful. But, she was so violent and lazy. Prince had a fight with his wife every day. After a week, they got a divorce. After three weeks, Prince got married to her mother. She was 65 years old, but she has a good figure.
He made love to her every night.
And they lived happily ever after.

Goat detained over armed robbery

OK, this was far too funny for me not to post. Found via Facebook.

LAGOS (Reuters) - Police in Nigeria are holding a goat on suspicion of attempted armed robbery.

Vigilantes took the black and white beast to the police saying it was an armed robber who had used black magic to transform himself into a goat to escape arrest after trying to steal a Mazda 323.

"The group of vigilante men came to report that while they were on patrol they saw some hoodlums attempting to rob a car. They pursued them. However one of them escaped while the other turned into a goat," Kwara state police spokesman Tunde Mohammed told Reuters by telephone.

"We cannot confirm the story, but the goat is in our custody. We cannot base our information on something mystical. It is something that has to be proved scientifically, that a human being turned into a goat," he said.

Belief in witchcraft is widespread in parts of Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation. Residents came to the police station to see the goat, photographed in one national newspaper on its knees next to a pile of straw.

Sometimes marking tests can be fun.

For example, this gem written by one of my students:

"I think your ring tone is very big! It make me irregular."

Not a function I want on my mobile.

Perfect DUI Test

While I am certain this is staged, I found it funny nonetheless.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I'm almost sure this is Super Troopers or something.
